Renting a breath analyser in Mumbai

Every host with a bar has the same worry at midnight, and almost none of them do anything about it: guests driving home after an open bar, on Mumbai roads, at the end of a long night.

A breath analyser near the exit changes the conversation from an awkward one to a factual one. Instead of a host guessing whether a guest is fine to drive, the guest checks for themselves and makes the call. In practice, most people who blow a reading they didn't expect take the cab - they just needed something more concrete than a friend's opinion.

It is a prompt, not a clearance. A reading below any threshold is not permission to drive, and nobody should treat it that way. But as a way of getting a guest to think about it at all, it works better than a sign.

Best used for

  • Wedding receptions and after-parties with an open bar
  • Corporate parties and annual functions
  • New Year and festival events
  • Club and private party nights
  • Any function where guests are driving themselves home
  • Corporate events with a duty-of-care policy

How many do you need?

One near the main exit covers most functions. Where guests leave via two routes — a lobby and a car park, say — take two, since a unit people have to walk back for will not get used.

What to check with the venue

Placement is the whole thing. It needs to sit where guests naturally pass on the way out, with enough space that using it isn't a public performance in front of the queue behind. Talk to the banquet team about where that is. Confirm a socket at the position, and brief whoever is stationed there on what to say — this works far better with a person beside it than as an unattended machine.

Booked alongside

Late-night setups often combine this with traffic cones for valet routing and walkie talkies so the exit team can call cabs as guests need them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is a reading from this legally valid?

No. It's an indication to help a guest
decide, not a legal clearance, and it should never be treated as permission to
drive. If there's any doubt, the answer is a cab.

Do guests find it intrusive?

Not when it's placed well and offered rather than imposed. Most people use
it out of curiosity and then act on what it tells them.

Does someone need to be stationed with it?

It works considerably better with someone beside it who can explain it and
help arrange a cab. We can arrange that as part of on-ground support.

Is it hygienic with hundreds of guests?

Single-use mouthpieces are used throughout. Tell us the expected guest
count and we'll supply enough.

Where should it go?

On the natural exit route, with a bit of space around it. A unit tucked in
a corner nobody passes achieves nothing.
